thinking out loud

…things that are on my mind, heart, and soul

10.24.10 Worship Confessional

This morning the focus of our worship gathering was transformation and growth. Over the past months our spiritual formation team has been preparing to introduce a new tool called Monvee to our community of faith. I am energized by the potential that Monvee brings to our people as a resource and tool to help root our community more deeply in the way of Jesus Christ. If you are interested in spiritual formation and searching for a helpful resource for your church, I would strongly encourage you to check out this tool. If you would like to hear what our team shared you can listen in at our audio site, “thinking out loud.”

I tried to shape our music set with songs that spoke of life, grace, growth and goodness of God. Here’s what we sang today:

  • Alive Again (Matt Maher)
  • Let God Arise (Chris Tomlin)
  • Sing, Sing, Sing (Chris Tomlin)
  • The Earth is Yours (Gungor)
  • God of Our Yesterdays (Matt Redman)
  • Made to Worship (Chris Tomlin)

After “The Earth is Yours,” we reflected upon Ephesians 2:1-10 (from the Message). I love the way Peterson captures these powerful words from the Apostle Paul that speak of the amazing grace of God in Jesus Christ. “Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish” (Ephesians 2:8). Singing the words of Matt Redman, “we praise you God of our yesterdays, we praise you the God who is here today, we praise you, our joy for tomorrow comes” reminds me that we have been saved, we are being saved and we will be saved by the God who is the same, yesterday, today and forever!

At the end of our gathering, we prayed together a prayer that was crafted by a member of our community, Dianne Polome. Dianne is a gifted writer and this prayer captured the deep intentions of our heart. I pray it touches you as well.

Hope of creation, planted deep in our hearts we open our lives to your transforming grace.May we surrender daily to the power of your Spirit; May we root ourselves in the truth of your Word; may we walk in the light with the people of God.

Have your way in us; change us, grow us, fashion us into the image of your dear Son, and make us a reflection of your love for all the world to see.

Hope of creation, planted deep in our hearts, we open our lives to your transforming grace.

May it be so!

have the peace that passes understanding at the heart of yourself, but do not be at peace with the world. for the world is more malleable than we think and we must wrestle it from fools. (bono)
