thinking out loud

…things that are on my mind, heart, and soul

8.29.10 Worship Confessional

It was great to be back in worship with our community of faith after being away on vacation for a couple of Sundays. A special thanks to Sue and Merritt for leading our community in worship through song the past two Sundays. They both did an excellent job in crafting their worship sets and it is truly a gift to have strong leaders who are willing to share their gifts with our faith community!

I love introducing new songs to our community so this week we kicked things off with the new Jeremy Camp/Brenton Brown song, “We Cry Out.” I highly recommend this song to you – it has a nice melodic hook to it and the lyric content is solid as well. The chorus declares:

“We will cry out to you
Your loving kindness and your truth
It has delivered us, you have delivered us
Great is your glory lord, when nations learn of your ways
They will bow down to you, we will bow down to you.”

We followed this up with:

  • Let God Arise (Tomlin)
  • God of Second Chances (Whittaker)
  • Mighty to Save (Hillsongs)

After the lectionary reading from Jeremiah 2, we did a simple version (acoustic guitar and two vocalists) of Daniel Renstrom’s “Broken Cisterns.” If you are not familar with Renstrom, run quickly to his site. He is an excellent songwriter with a depth of lyrical content that is missing in much of contemporary Christian music.

I would love to hear about your community of faith’s worship gathering. You can join the conversation here and see what other churches were singing as well!

Stay connected…

Yes–forgot to mention Matt Maher’s name on communion… my bad.

So how did Carlos’ song go.. haven’t done that one myself.

    Peace

jim – we do a scaled back version of carlos’ song – it’s hard to duplicate the feel of it live without all the loops on the recording. it actually works pretty well with a more subdued feel to it. give it a try.

Great setlist! During our message on Sunday, I had God of Second Chances going through my head. I need to look at doing at GracePoint sometime…

have the peace that passes understanding at the heart of yourself, but do not be at peace with the world. for the world is more malleable than we think and we must wrestle it from fools. (bono)
